How are taxes handled on my Maven payments?

Maven does not withhold taxes but may require tax information and report earnings based on your tax status and total payments.

What you need to know:

No tax withholding

  • Maven does not withhold taxes from any payments.
  • You are responsible for reporting and paying all applicable taxes on your earnings.

U.S. persons ($600 threshold)

  • If you are a U.S. person and earn $600 or more in a calendar year:
    • Maven is required to report your earnings to the IRS.
    • You will receive a Form 1099 in January.
    • You must complete a W-9 form to be eligible to receive payments.

Tax information requirements (W-9 and similar forms)

  • You may be required to provide tax information:
    • When approaching or exceeding the $600 threshold
    • Before receiving any payment, regardless of amount (for compliance purposes)
  • If required tax information is not provided:
    • Payments cannot be processed
    • Amounts over $600 may be forfeited if a W-9 is not submitted before year-end

Non-U.S. participants

  • If you are not a U.S. person:
    • You must certify your non-U.S. status when requesting payment
    • You are responsible for handling all tax obligations in your local jurisdiction

Important notes:

  • Tax requirements vary based on your location and tax status.
  • Providing accurate and complete tax information helps avoid payment delays or restrictions.
  • For full details, including definitions of a U.S. person and additional requirements, refer to the Tax Matters section of the Maven Payment Policy.
